A MULTIMEDIA EXHIBIT ON IMPERIALIST GRAVE ROBBING
OUR BODIES, OUR CULTURE
IT’S COLORS AND NOISES
about the exhibit
An exploration of the imperialist violence of museums, their role in the propagation of white supremacist institutions, & their contribution to historical amnesia. The process photographs Meso-American & pre-columbian artifacts from various museum collections and re-imagines them into new meanings in opposition to the narratives of erasure & obfuscation empires rely on.
An art practice of re-appropriation as a means of reclaiming and re-contextualizing history. reclaiming from the museum's privatization of culture to create new visual articulations against imperialist agendas.
An act of cultural agency against institutions that uphold colonial structures and erase the cultural heritage of marginalized peoples, especially museums that position themselves as authorities that dictate the meaning and value of our legacies.
An attempt to go beyond romanticizing an indigenous past or ancestry and to actively stand in solidarity with indigenous communities today. art against the historical and ongoing violence experienced globally by occupied and oppressed indigenous communities.
